GASSIN sits high in the hills above St. Tropez, it’s winding, narrow streets and archways opening up into a glorious vista over the Gulf. While the Côte d’Azur lies glistening on the shores below, the real magic of this region is hidden in these hilltop villages where buildings have stood for centuries and the old Chapel of Notre Dame de Consolation remains, it’s humble alter and ancient paintings bearing testament to the past. The many restaurants that line the terrace overlooking the magnificent panorama prepare for the midday meal, but I am continuing my tour to the village of Ramatuelle further east towards the Cap Taillât where I ventured by boat less than a week ago!
