The mountain road to Collobrieres climbs to over 700m with sensational views across to Le Lavendou and ‘Les Isles de Porquerolles’ beyond. Located in the heart of the Maures hills, this cobblestoned, picture-postcard village dates back to the 12th Century and times of copper mining and cork production. Today, its better known for its chestnuts which play a large role in local cuisine, including ice-cream and confectionary.
The bright facade of the Saint Coeur de Marie church with its beautiful carved woodwork and stained glass windows, sits across the river from the town square, where cafes shade under white-barked Plane trees. The village fountain bears the statue of a modestly covered Cherub and the ‘Hotel Restaurant des Maures’ on the riverbank is one not to be missed!
